Repertoire

A solo program of 40 to 50 minutes  in length consisting of:

  1. One of the following pieces by J.S. Bach, to be chosen by the competitor:
    Adagio and Fugue from the Sonata No. 3 in C Major, BWV 1005;
    Chaconne from the Partita No. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1004.
  2. Two caprices by N. Paganini: one chosen by the performer and Caprice No. 24 (required).
  3. Valse-Scherzo, Op. 34 by P.I. Tchaikovsky.
  4. One or several pieces of the performer’s choice.

A solo program of 50 to 60 minutes in length. The program must include one or more works by a Russian composer or composers (the composers mentioned below represent possibilities). The program should not include pieces performed during the First Round.

  1. A sonata by one of the following composers: W.A. Mozart (excepting the early sonatas from his childhood), L. Beethoven, F. Schubert, R. Schumann, J. Brahms, E. Grieg, C. Franck, C. Debussy, M. Ravel, R. Strauss, B. Bartók, S. Prokofiev, D. Shostakovich, or B. Martinů.
  2. A virtuosic work.
  3. A work by F. Kreisler, Serenade Melancolique in B-flat Minor for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 26 by P.I. Tchaikovsky, or any Romance by S. Rachmaninov.
  4. A composition of the performer's choice.

Two concertos for violin and orchestra:

  1. Violin Concerto by P.I. Tchaikovsky (composer’s edition)
  2. One of the following concertos by W.A. Mozart (performer’s choice):
    Concerto No.3 in G Major, KV. 216, Concerto No. 4 in D Major, KV. 218, or Concerto No. 5 in A Major, KV. 219

If any score or part is not available, the organizing committee may require the performer to provide it within a reasonable period of time.
